Profile

Arakne is a software company focused on health-care, e-government and mobile applications. From a structural point of view, Arakne represents a joint venture between two medium enterprises - Informa Srl (http://informa.cds.it/), operating in the pharmaceutical field with a turnover of more than 2 MEuro, and Nergal Srl (http://www.nergal.it), working in the field of Information and Communication Technology, with a staff of 50 people and a turnover of 3 MEuro. Arakne was born by the desire of an important italian corporate to respond to the demand of product and services dealing with mobile and security questions. In the 2002, Arakne had a staff of three people and a turnover of more than 766 KEuro, a good measure of the success reached. Usually, Arakne uses his own staff in R&D project, in the developing of new products or services; utilizes instead Nergal staff in administrative problems and in resolving technological or systemistic issues (especially in the deployment in the customer environment), and is supported by Informa to keep relationship with its medical-pharmaceutical market.

Since 2000, Arakne is a Registration Authority affiliated to the CA Actalis spa. Our company has significant expertise in Pervasive Computing (handheld device, mobile applications). The main projects in this field are: a cPOE (computerized prescription order entry) system; an e-DrugBook; an application to send signed mails and to change the state of a work-flow by signing the changes; several data entry applications. All these applications run on PDAs and/or smart-phone (powered by PalmOs or PocketPC or Epoc). Arakne has also developed many applications based on very strong security features and e-signature: web application to sign data by using a browser; a system to manage a virtual folder that can be opened only by using a smartcard. Arakne has also been the technical leader of the IST project Mobi-dev (IST-2000-20462, KA I). In the health-care field, Arakne has also developed HandHospital, utilized at the moment in 10 italian hospitals.

Role
Arakne will be responsible for the definition of the security policy and the design and implementation of the security module. The most significant contributions provided by Arakne are found in the work packages for platform functional design and implementation, but also services and application specification in order to ensure that all critical security requirements are taken into account during the project’s.

Key Personnel

Roberto Altieri - Degree in Electronic Engineering (Politecnico di Bari). He had a significant collaboration in Neural Network and Hidden Model in Speech recognition with the Phonetic Insitute of Saarbrücken (Germany). He worked with Politecnico di Bari in the AVIP project that aimed to develop software for Labeling voice signals. Since 1999 he has been working in Nergal s.r.l. as Area Manager. Expert of Assembly, C/C++, Perl, Java, JavaScript, Visual Basic, VBA, SQL, ASP, COM, CORBA, DAO, ADO, in Windows, Linux, PalmOS and Pocket PC operating system.

Since 2000 he has been managing several software projects, as VGS (Windows Namespace extension, COM, Network protocol e PKI), PalmHospital, Meta (PDA), Adapt (SIM-GSM). He is currently Head of "Health-care Research Unit" at Nergal s.r.l.
