Profile

Indra is the leading Spanish company in Information Technologies (IT) with more than 6.000 employees. In 2002, the company generated revenues of 882.2 M€ and a backlog of orders in excess of 1.177 M€. Its activities are distributed into three lines of business: Information Technologies, Simulation and Automatic Maintenance Systems, and Defence Electronic Equipment.

Indra's business is based on a market and customer focus accompanied by the creation of the Company's own innovative solutions, paying particular attention to segments showing emerging demand and higher added value and technological content. Indra is an outstanding point of reference on the markets in which it operates, at both national and international level. Present in more than 40 countries on the five continents, 30% of its billing in 2002 came from its international activities.

Role in the project

Indra is the principal developer and integrator in the project. The company leads both workpackages 7 and 8 where the platform and the pilot services will be developed, integrated and deployed. Indra has large experience in this kind of leadership in both national and international environments as well as in commercial and R&D projects, thus guarantying successful results.
Other main tasks addressed by Indra in the project are the analysis, research and description of potential business models under which such a platform and services could be exploited and the research and definition of user-friendly mobile user interfaces.

There are different units of the company, called markets, engaged in the project. The Public Administration and New Operators markets that are client-oriented units, will assure a future exploitation and reuse of the results. On the other hand the Excellence Center devoted to mobile solutions will undertake the main development and integration activities and, finally, the e-Business unit will work in the usability aspects of the user interfaces. The latter unit has a specialized group specifically devoted to user interfaces and content/information architectures.
Needless to say that Indra will also collaborate in the rest of common tasks such as dissemination and promotion of the results.
