Profile

Established in 1988, EDISOFT is a specialised Portuguese company that offers technologically advanced software solutions and highly qualified IT consulting services to the design, development and integration of critical real-time command, control, communications, computer and intelligence systems, being thus a reference in the information technology industry, having delivered a number of technologically advanced solutions to customers around the world.

EDISOFT also holds a profound knowledge in the development of integrated business solutions, and integrates a Business Unit specialised in Geographical Information Systems. This area develops GIS solutions for private businesses and public organisations in several areas such as telecommunication, retail and logistics, technical infra-structures and others, offering a wide range of value-added products and services such as field data acquisition and cartography production, system design and development, consultancy and training. The business unit has also a strong involvement in several R&D programmes and also participates successfully under the 6. Framework Programme IST where the main application fields are open GIS standards, integration of GIS information services in open, distributed service environments as well as mobile GIS services in particular.

Role

EDISOFT acts as the project coordinator and will contribute with research on the use of open standards for the sharing of geographical information in open service environments. EDISOFT will further lead and participate actively in the work packages for service scenario definition and evaluation as well as pilot service specification.

Key Personnel

Dirk Tilsner - Graduated in 1995 by the University of Rostock in “Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications”, he worked for 3 years as project engineer in a reputed R&D institution in Portugal (UNINOVA-CRI – Centre for Intelligent Robotics), where he participated in European research projects in the area of pattern recognition, neural networks, signal processing and fuzzy control. He later joined the Portuguese software house Skysoft where he worked for another 2 years as project manager participating in European research projects in aeronautics and air traffic management. At the beginning of 2000, he assumed a new position at Geograf as Technical Manager of the software development department. After acquisition of this company by EDISOFT, he integrated in 2003 the recently created business unit “Ground Segment Communications”.

David Arouca – Graduated in 1998 in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer by the University of Aveiro, Portugal, he worked for 2 years at a research institute (INESC) as research fellow in the area of Telemedicine (software development). He joined Geograf in 2000 where he has been working as Project Engineer and System Analyst in the area of application development for Geographical Information Systems namely for utility (cable TV infrastructure) management and Fleet Management Systems. He is currently involved in EDISOFT’s R&D projects in the areas of Satellite Mission Planning and GIS.
