The service platform has to be designed in a way not to place strong and critical constraints for the technical implementation of mobile services. For example, the platform shall be open to various (common and future) mobile communication technologies, technical solutions for content presentation, mobile application technology etc.
Still, the planning of new services has to consider the fundamental technical
requirements for the implementation and integration of new services and how
the used technologies impact on the complexity and costs of service implementation
and deployment. These will amongst others be related to the following areas:
- Telecommunication infrastructure and communication means and protocols (e.g.
GSM-SMS, WAP over GPRS, UMTS, …)
- Content representation and presentation (textual, symbolic, multimedia, maps,
…)
- Integration of service information (corporate database, sub-systems, intra-
vs. inter-department, use of location-sensitive information),
- Service configuration (interfaces for configuration, additional programming
effort),
- Mobile technology (devices, software framework – Java, .NET, …)
- Creation of mobile applications (mobile internet browser, client-server, …)
